Plan your lessons visually – structured, timed, ready to teach
Design lesson plans with clear phases, realistic timings and smooth transitions – on a visual timeline. Drag and drop, free, no sign-up. For teachers, lecturers and educators.
Why teachers and lecturers use Sessionplan for lesson planning
Paper plans and Word documents work until the moment you need to change something. Sessionplan gives you a proper planning workspace that handles the timing automatically:
- Visual timeline: See your full lesson at a glance – phases, timings and transitions laid out clearly
- Drag & drop: Move a phase and all start times update instantly. No maths, no erasing.
- No sign-up required: Start building your lesson plan right now
- Share via link: Share your lesson plan with a colleague or mentor as a single URL
Features built for lesson design
Lesson phases as block types
Use the pre-configured phase categories or create your own to match your subject and style:
- Hook / Opener – Activate prior knowledge, spark curiosity, pose the driving question
- Input / Explanation – Direct instruction, modelling, demonstration
- Guided practice – Worked examples, Q&A, shared tasks
- Independent work – Student tasks, exploration, application
- Consolidation – Review, summary, exit ticket
- Reflection / Exit – Metacognitive check, learning log, preview of next session
- Transition / Buffer – Time for equipment, room changes, tech setup
Auto-calculated timing
- Live clock – Set your lesson start time and see exactly when each phase begins and ends. Total duration is calculated automatically.
Templates & reuse
- Templates – Save 45-minute, 60-minute and double lesson layouts and reuse them across your planning
- Block library – Save recurring opener or closer routines and drop them into any new lesson plan
Live Mode
- Run your lesson live – Activate Live Mode when the lesson starts. A slim bar shows you which phase is active, how much time remains, and what comes next – so your attention stays on the class, not the clock.
Export & share
- Share link – Share your plan with colleagues, mentors or a teaching partner via a single URL
- JSON export/import – Save your plans locally or transfer them to another device
Visual planning vs. Word documents – the practical difference
Why a visual, timing-based lesson plan tends to work better in practice:
- Timings always visible – No manual recalculation every time something changes
- Faster to adjust – Move a phase, shorten a task, add a buffer – takes seconds
- Private by default – Stored locally in your browser; optional server sync via Dynamic Link
- No login barrier – No account to create, no email to verify

Frequently asked questions
Is this really free?
Yes – completely. No subscription, no premium features locked behind a paywall, no trial that expires. Everything is available from the moment you open the app.
Do I need an account?
No. Open Sessionplan (sessionplan.de) and start planning immediately. Your lesson plans are saved in your browser's local storage – no email, no password.
How do I share a lesson plan with a colleague?
Use the Share button to generate a link. Your colleague opens the link in their browser and sees your full plan. You can also export as JSON and import on another device.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. Once loaded, the app runs entirely in your browser – no internet connection required. Useful for schools with unreliable WiFi.
How is this different from a standard lesson plan template?
A static template shows you what to fill in. Sessionplan (sessionplan.de) shows you how your lesson will actually flow in time – which phases are eating into other phases, where you've got breathing room and where you're cutting it close. Live Mode then lets you run the lesson with a real-time guide.
